[F-F] Freezing shrimp (late reply)

I buy lots of shrimp. I have bought it for years. The person is correct about deheading at least doubling the cost of the shrimp. And that does not include the time it takes to do the deheading. The other person mentioned shrimp stock. I have tried shrimp stock with and with out the heads. Now when I want good shrimp stock I only use the peeling of the shrimp and not with the heads. We can not tell the difference in the finished product. For years I bought shrimp and froze them when I got home. But fortunately I had a worker at the fish market ask me what I did with all those shrimp. Then she told me how to buy them in the future. This was her suggestion and this is how I've bought shrimp for the last three or four years. When I decide on the size of shrimp I want I ask for a 5 pound bag(s) of the deheaded flash frozen shrimp. I bring the bag home and divide as necessary into quart or gallon bags. Sometimes I leave it in the large bags it came in if I am going to boil enough for family and friends. This way prevents me from needing to add water to freeze. Also when I need shrimp I just take out what I need. I don't think you can get shrimp this way from a regular grocery store. But I get it in the 5 pound bags at several different seafood markets.
